CANADA 150 CELEBRATION

On Saturday, July 15, 2017, the Village of Windthorst celebrated Canada’s 150th Birthday.  The day long celebration started off with a Pancake Breakfast put on by the Kipling 2018 Grad Class.  This was followed by the Parade which featured over 35 entries and was viewed by over 350 people who lined the streets of the Village.  Following the parade, the afternoon activities were centred at the Museum and the Sportsgrounds.  The Museum welcomed many visitors who spent time exploring the exhibits and learning more about the history of Windthorst.  Visitors also took part in a “Museum Scavenger Hunt”.  At the Sportsgrounds, a bounce castle, face-painters, horses and an opportunity to check out the Fire Trucks were enthusiastically enjoyed by the youngsters.  The Windthorst Pirates took on Estevan in a double header.  The first game ended in a 2-2 tie and was followed by a 7-1 victory by the Pirates in the second game.  Throughout the day, the Knights of Columbus kept everyone fed and the Wreck Hockey team kept everyone watered.  The evening’s events were kicked off with a cold-plate supper at the Rec. Centre with 165 in attendance. Then it was time to “kick back” and party with “Odd Man Out” at the Cabaret.  The highlight of the evening, though, had to be the fantastic Fireworks Show!!

Events like this don’t happen without a lot of hard work by a lot of people in our community. Special thanks to the Canada 150 Committee who did a fantastic job organizing the day’s events. To all the volunteers who so tirelessly give back to our Community – thank you!!! We couldn’t have done this without you and we know everyone appreciated your efforts!!

Here are some photos of the events taken throughout the day.  Thank you to everyone who shared their photos with us so we could share them with you.
