VILLAGE OF WINDTHORST – WATER UPDATE In the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 20, the Well house at Well #1 south of the Village caught on fire and burned to the ground. As result of this fire, Well #1 is not operational. We are in the process of cleaning up the site and getting the well back on line but this will take time (possibly two weeks). Until then, Well #2 is our only source of water. Unfortunately, it will not bring in enough water to meet our daily water demand. To meet our daily demand, we are bringing in water from the Town of Arcola to fill our reservoir. You may notice a difference in the quality of the water but it is safe for consumption and residents DO NOT need to boil water prior to use. We plan to have the reservoir full by the weekend which should provide enough water for the Village for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, providing that ALL residents use discretion in their water usage. We would ask that all residents please conserve water over the next few days as we will not be able to access water from Arcola over the Christmas holiday.  HOLIDAY OFFICE HOURS The Village Office will be CLOSED Friday December 22, Monday December 25th and Tuesday December 26th   Office will be OPEN December 27, 28 and 29th   Office will be CLOSED January 1st and 2nd REGULAR OFFICE HOURS RESUME WEDNESDAY JANUARY 3rd     GARBAGE COLLECTION Garbage WILL BE collected on Thursday, December 21 Recycle Pickup WILL BE Thursday December 28   Residents are reminded not to leave their carts on the street over night – any damage to carts is the responsibility of the resident. If a replacement bin is required the cost is $150.00.   2017 PROPERTY TAX REMINDER Deadline for payment of 2017 property taxes is Dec. 31. Last Business Day at Village Office is December 29. Any unpaid taxes will have a 15% penalty applied on Jan. 1, 2018 Payment may be made at Village Office, through mail or eTransfer. Contact the Office at 306 224 2033 or email village.windthorst@sasktel.net for further information.    SNOW REMOVAL  Council would like to remind residents of the Village that snow removal on streets is done on a priority-based system. If you do your own cleaning of driveways and sidewalks remember not to blow or push snow on to the streets. To accommodate snow removal, vehicles should not be parked indefinitely on boulevards. After snow fall residents should move vehicles off the street for snow blowing efforts.   2018 Utility Rates A reminder that 2018 utility rates will be set at $195 per quarter As per Sask Municipal Board approval Prepayment for the year will be accepted any time after January 1, 2018. Discounts will apply. First Billing will be March 2018    Business and Pet Licensing – All Business Licenses and Pet Licenses for the Village are due in January of 2018. Payment may be made at Village Office, through mail or eTransfer. Contact the Office at 306 224 2033 or email village.windthorst@sasktel.net for further information.   ALL dogs and cats over 6 months of age are to be licensed. Fees: Non-sterilized dog or cat: $30.00           Sterilized dog or cat:     $15.00 Licenses must be bought by February 1 of each year or within 14 days of taking possession of a dog or cat or within 14 days of the dog or cat reaching 6 months of age. Failure to license a dog or cat can result in a fine of $60.00. The maximum combined number of dogs or cats that a person may own, possess or harbour is THREE. Failure to comply can result in a fine of $50.00. A dog or cat is deemed “running at large” when it is beyond the boundaries of the land occupied by the owner of the dog or cat AND when the dog or cat is not under control by being in direct and continuous charge of a person competent to control it; or securely fastened within an enclosure or securely fastened so that it cannot roam at will.  The fine for a dog or cat running at large is $100.00.   Walking your dog/cat Your dog/cat must be on a leash at all times when it is beyond the boundaries of the owner’s property or it can result in a $100 fine. You must immediately pick up after your dog or cat after it relieves itself on private or public property.
